Course Information
Description
The course offers an introduction into the typesetting system LaTeX with a focus on its effective use in an academic and professional context, based on either a local installation or an online platform. Contents include
- getting started with LaTeX
- document structure and formatting
- floating objects (figures, tables)
- handling of bibliographies and citations
- typesetting mathematical formulas
- incorporation of external packages
- graphical illustrations using TikZ
- important types of documents (e.g., presentations, theses, CVs, letters)
- development of custom macros and packages
- directories and search paths
Prerequisites
There are no skill-specific requirements for participating in this class, however access to a device that is able to run LaTex compilers either locally or web-based is required for each student.
Concept and Components
This class is comprised of:
- 1x 2h lectures per week (slides)
- Exercise sheets with corresponding answer sheets
- Tutorials for co-working on exercise sheets

Exercises
Exercises will be centered around one exercise sheet per week. In the exercise tutorials (see MaMpf ), you will have the oportunity to work on the exercise sheets with your peers and with support from the tutor. Feel free to ask questions on the lecture notes or the lectures as well. After the work phase of each exercise sheet has ended, we will post sample solutions.
Class Credit
This class if pass/fail graded with ÜK (Übegergreifende Kompetenz) credits. Examination is intended to be in class without the need for a separate examination date. More specific information will be made available asap.
